The best Discord bots for small servers

A small server has different problems from a large one. There are no raids, no support queue, and no leaderboard anyone is trying to climb. What there is, is the question of how a channel stays alive when twenty people are in it and rarely more than three at once.

Which is why the most common recommendation for small servers is the least satisfying one: fewer bots. Every bot brings commands nobody remembers, permissions nobody audits, and one more thing that can go down. Five bots on a server of thirty members is not capability, it is weight.

What does pay off here are tools with one clear job. Something that hands out roles, so not every request goes through you. Something that announces sessions, if you meet regularly. And, if you use voice, something for music. Moderation rarely needs a bot at this size — Discord's built-in tools are enough as long as you know every name.
