The job these bots do

An economy bot introduces a currency that exists only on your server. Members earn it through activity, daily rewards, work commands or gambling, and spend it in a shop: on roles, channel access, collectibles, or simply a bigger number next to their name.

What it creates is a second incentive alongside whatever your server is actually about. That can carry a community: people return daily because they want their reward. It can also displace the topic entirely, when the main channel turns into a dice table.

Features that actually matter

Where money comes from and where it goes. Every server economy has an inflation problem waiting. If more currency is created each day than is spent, everyone is rich within three months and the shop is meaningless. Look for bots with sinks that genuinely destroy currency, not just member-to-member trading, which removes nothing.

Configurable amounts. Daily rewards, work payouts, gambling odds: if you cannot touch those numbers, you inherit somebody else's economy. A good bot puts them in the open.

The shop has to be yours. Stock items are worthless. What makes the difference are roles and access that exist only on your server. Check that you can define your own items and bind them to roles.

Gambling with limits. Slots, blackjack and coinflip are the most-used commands in this category and simultaneously its biggest liability. Without a stake cap and a cooldown, individual members lose in minutes what they collected over weeks. That produces frustration, and it produces questions for your team.

Alt-account resistance. Daily rewards handed out without checks mean someone with three accounts collects three times. A bot that considers account age or time in server saves you that argument.

Permissions worth checking

An economy bot gets by on very little: Send Messages, Read Message History, and Attach Files if it renders images for inventories or playing cards. Once the shop sells roles, add Manage Roles, with the usual constraint that the bot's role must sit above the roles being sold.

It does not need Manage Channels, Moderate Members, Manage Messages or Administrator. This category has no technical reason for elevated permissions, and a request for them is a reason to keep looking.

One note on data: economy bots store balances, inventories and trade histories. That is more information about individual members than most other categories accumulate. Reading the provider's privacy policy pays off here more than elsewhere.

Where server owners go wrong

The first mistake is starting without a destination. A currency without a shop is a number. Decide what can be bought first, then how it is earned.

The second is gambling as the primary income. If rolling dice pays better than contributing, the server relocates to the dice. Keep the expected return below what honest work yields.

The third is an economy with no reset. Sooner or later it runs away from you. A bot that can wipe balances or end a season gives you that option; one that cannot forces you to live with the outcome.
