Detectives must decide where to investigate, determine which evidence matters, compare suspect statements against the known timeline, and piece together the truth before submitting their final verdict.

👤 Investigate Persons of Interest

Every case can contain multiple suspects with their own:

relationships to the victim
alibis
knowledge
motives
secrets
behaviour
connections to evidence

Your Persons of Interest files keep track of the suspects connected to the investigation and which ones your detectives have questioned.

Some suspects may be helpful.

Some may hide information.

Some may have something much more serious to conceal.

🎙️ Interrogate Suspects

Question suspects and dig deeper into their version of events.

ColdTrails' interrogation system allows an investigation to evolve based on what detectives ask and what they've already discovered.

Suspects can become increasingly pressured throughout an interview, moving through interrogation states such as:

CALM → GUARDED → PRESSURED → CRACKING → BREAKING → BROKEN

Present discovered evidence during questioning, challenge suspicious statements and look for contradictions.

A suspect's first answer may not always be their final answer.

🧠 AI-Powered Conversations

ColdTrails uses AI to make suspect conversations feel more natural while keeping the actual mystery controlled by the game's case system.

The case determines the facts.

The suspect has defined knowledge, secrets, evidence connections and information they can reveal. AI is used to perform the conversation rather than decide who committed the crime.

This means detectives can investigate through conversation without the underlying case being rewritten every time somebody asks an unexpected question.

📡 Voice Interrogations

ColdTrails is being designed to take interrogations beyond text.

Voice interrogation will allow detectives to enter a Discord voice channel and speak directly to a suspect.

The bot can join the investigation room, process questions spoken by detectives and allow the suspect to answer aloud.

Instead of:

Detective: typing a question
Suspect: sending a text response

the goal is to make it feel more like an actual interview room.

Voice features will clearly indicate when an interview is active and when speech processing is being used.

Every minute matters.

Use the case timeline to reconstruct events surrounding the crime and compare them against:

physical evidence

discoveries
interrogation responses

An inconsistency in someone's timeline could completely change an investigation.

When your investigation is complete, it's time to make a decision.

Your team must use everything it has uncovered to determine who is responsible.

Once the final verdict is submitted, the case can reveal how your investigation compared with what actually happened.
